Personal
and family consecration
In
1998, Slovenian parishes began
to encourage consecration of
individuals and families to
the hearts of Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary.
A letter was signed by approximately
three hundred persons, including
priests, religious, and laity.
Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary
It
was sent to the Catholic Bishops'
Conference of Slovenia with
a request to approve and recommend
this consecration. The Bishops
granted their approval during
their 3rd plenary assembly in
Ljubljana on November 17, 1998.
They
stated that the consecration
should be »a personal,
free decision, with a thorough
prayer preparation, a solid
knowledge of the nature of the
consecration, and a conscientious
acceptance of tasks arising
from the consecration, especially
a more fervent and consistent
life for the spiritual well-being
of the whole Church, which is
so necessary in these times.«
Concerning
cooperation of parish priests
and other superiors the bishops
wrote:
- »We
ask parish priests and other
superiors to recommend the
consecration in their parishes
and also in other communities,
and to help with the preparation
and realization of this
consecration for the people
who will decide for it.«
Bishops
appointed representatives of
individual dioceses to the committee
for consecration to the hearts
of Jesus and Mary. The committee
meets several times a year and
has invited more members who
belong to the extended committee.
The main task of the committee
for the consecration is to promote
and encourage the consecration
of individuals, families, and
parishes.

The
committee drafted both formulas
for consecration of individuals
and families, and these were
approved by the leadership of
the local Church.
The
committee also prepared resources
for the consecration: a series
of booklets on consecration
(e. g.: with an explanation
and prayers, a novena before
consecration, an explanation
of the prayer of personal consecration,
the fruits of the consecration,
a manual on consecration with
an explanation and prayers,
a traditional picture and a
biblical one

The committee also publishes
booklets for everyday readings
in June, the so called »Roses.«
The
movement for consecration of
individuals and families has
thus far been accepted by a
third of Slovenian parish priests
who have also personally consecrated
themselves.
The
consecrated faithful eagerly
strive for progress in their
spiritual lives.
